When Gwendolyn Dutch, Marlowe’s previous employer and one of the most influential women in the country, invites Elora into her world and offers her a job, it feels like the clean slate Elora has been aching for.

But offers like that don’t just fall into someone’s lap, least of all Elora’s. And when something sounds too good to be true? Well, it probably is.

Shiny things are distracting, and even though Elora is grateful for the grand roof over her head and the lavish parties at Gwendolyn’s estate, she can’t shake the feeling that something is wrong. It seems as though nobody is looking for Marlowe despite how much Gwendolyn and her son express how much they miss her. 

Elora won’t give up on her friend. Something is amiss, and she is determined to shake something loose. But all she manages to shake loose is trouble, and every rock she turns over reveals seedy truths about the people she’s living with.
