In the fifth of the Lucky Lady Casino stories, Kathryn Shay gives us the story of Alyssa, the fragile and troubled Jackpot Lady we met in All In. Abused physically and emotionally by her husband, this story gives her a chance to escape and start over, and if Zach has any say in it, she’ll be starting over with him. The greatest strength for me in this story is the lack of simplicity that her escape includes – she has a son who doesn’t realize how his father has behaved, she has her professional reputation to maintain, and she has propriety to maintain in her relationship or otherwise with Zach while she is still legally married. At the end of the book, there are some very satisfying wraps of the couples met earlier in the series, and, if you’ve read those, I really recommend this book to get a view into their futures. I received a free copy of this book. This review was posted voluntarily.

A quick read that I thoroughly enjoyed. We first have met Alyssa , jackpot lady at the casino and going to nursing school in the previous book, All In. In this story we get more in depth with personal life of domestic abuse. Zach is a fireman who is dealing with the grief of the death a fellow fireman. They are two lonely souls who find comfort in each other as friends that develop into so much more. Even though a short story you have very complex characters dealing with real problems that is well told. It was great to catch up with previous characters the other books. I really enjoyed this series, all can be read as stand alone books but I recommend that you read them all.

This is the first book I have read in the Lucky Lady Casino series. It was a quick read. No more than a couple of hours. Kathryn Shay managed to pack a lot of story into this short book. Alyssa was an overworked wife, and mom biding her time in a troubled marriage. Zack was a single firefighter carrying some guilt about a previous fire. There was a definite attraction, but they were only friends. When circumstances occur that out both of their lives in danger, they start approaching life differently. I liked that there was no cheating involved. The romance was sweet. There was enough information about couples from the previous books that made me want to read them, and there was an HEA. I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy.
