About this eBook

The banns have been called, the date is set, but he’s falling fast and hard for the wrong woman.

When her parents announce they intend to break their promise to remain in London society for another year, Charlotte Waters is also given an ultimatum—make a suitable match immediately or start packing her trunks. Since leaving England is the last thing she wants, Charlotte puts aside her foolish longing for love and throws herself into the hunt for any proposal of marriage with the help of her good friends. However, her persistent infatuation for an engaged earl proves a great distraction when it becomes clear that his life is in peril…and Charlotte is the only one who’s noticed.

Winston Bell, Earl of Hurlston, has his position in society, a loving mother, loyal friends, and an arranged marriage he’s willing honor for duty, if not love—until a sweet, brave, and normally blushing wallflower puts herself in danger to save his life. His gratitude slowly blossoms into an attraction to a woman he shouldn’t long to seek out at every turn. But when another attempt is made on his life, Charlotte Waters is fighting right by his side again, transforming attraction to deep desire. Can he prevent falling further under the spell of a woman he shouldn’t want?

This is a good addition to the "Distinguished Rogues" series. It is a stand alone Regency read that is nicely developed and intriguing. Winston, the Earl of Hurlston, is engaged to be married and stuck doing he duty for his family. Charlotte has loved him from afar. Her parents are threatening leaving London unless she marries in three weeks time. When she finds out that Winston is in danger she steps in to help him. His eyes open to really see her. Feelings develop between them but he is supposed to marry someone else.

Charlotte saved Winston's life multiple times in this book and he keeps refusing to believe that someone is after him until he is forced to accept it and ask for her help. The attraction between them is strong, but he's engaged to another woman, someone who struck me as cold and selfish. Charlotte's adventurous parents refuse to let her live a life apart from them unless she is married despite her repeatedly telling them that she no longer wants to go with them. She is given a short amount of time to find a husband and the suitors she considers did make me chuckle and shake my head, but she can't get past her infatuation with Winston. I thought it was funny how observant she is because she's a wallflower. Because of her adventures, she certainly knows her way around a parasol to defend herself and those around her. There was quite a bit of suspense in this books with all the attacks and kidnappings as they try to figure who is after Winston before it's too late.

A fun who done it mystery story. Winston Bell is a popular Earl, finally he had the banns read for his arranged marriage to Elizabeth. She is a “cold fish” and there should be warning bells going off loudly for Winston. Charlotte is a wallflower that has a secret crush on a Earl that she can never have. As luck would have it while strolling with her friends through Hyde Park she notices riders racing toward Winston and his mother. Without a second thought she runs towards them banishing her parasol. And so starts one of several events that seems almost deadly. The story is fast moving, a few twists and turns, with a few good laughs thrown in. The who done it wasn’t that surprising, but a fun read. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
