In the Widow's Bed

As with all Heather Boyd's books it is engrossing, and interesting, keeping me involved making it hard to put down! Liked the fact that the Earl of Selwood is at his best friend (Lord Warnminster) and step-mother, a widow, house party. Phoebe (step mother) is looking for a lover and tells Lord Selwood who gives advice on who to pick and says he will send someone. The mystery is who shows up! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A Delightful Regency escapade that finds a widow on the lookout for a lover. She asks help from Jonathan, her stepson's best friend, while at the same time, her stepson has asked him to make sure she does not end up with anyone inappropriate! Think cougar in today's language as Jonathan dresses up as an older man and seduces Phoebe. They each had been attracted to the other, they just did not know it so when she found out who it was, they continue their attraction. But could they ever be with Phoebe being ten years older? Enjoyable with a little humor and a great journey to the end!

Steamy Regency Romp Regency is my favorite sub-genre of romance, and I was in the mood for a light Regency quick read. This book filled the bill completely and even added a fantastic level of steam. Having recently read a book that was too steamy too fast without character development beforehand, I appreciated that this author set up both the hero and the heroine before things got racy. There is even a bit of humor that went on beforehand (as well as after). Our hero is not pleased with being at his friend’s house party, and he is even less pleased when his friend asks him to watch after his stepmother. She is a widow, and her stepson believes she now seeks a lover. His friend wants him to keep that from happening, or at least deter her from the worst choices, and even places him in the room next door to his stepmother so he can thwart potential lovers even as they may come to her door! Secretly the widow and the stepson’s friend have harbored an attraction to each other. Neither thought it appropriate to act on. She, in particular, wonders at her attraction to a man 10 years her junior and believes he would prefer a debutante. The hero takes on the persona of a French seducer, and they have a passionate night in the dark without her knowing who he is. How will this all turn out between them? Will they find their HEA despite doubts? I would love to see a book about the evolution of the relationship between Warminster and our hero’s sister. This was the fun Regency romp I was hoping for. I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
