her mother died, there's a dead body in the garden, her cat talks, and she learns she's a witch. plus the nosy but well-meaning friends of her mother who seem to be taking over Jessica's life.

Very cute and entertaining book. Love the story line and it kept me engaged in read for the first time in years. I also love that it's something that both me and my daughter can read separately and discuss together.
