About this ebook

On H-666 the only thing more dangerous than love is hope...

The All Lights Celebration isn’t for me. I have nothing to celebrate.

I’ll spend my last night of freedom drinking my misery away. Then I’ll submit to forced labor in the mines, where my body and spirit will be broken, and the toxic fumes will destroy my mind. It’s my lot in life, and if I want to spare my sister the same fate, I must accept it.

I wasn’t expecting to meet him, though.

Reece is…different. Stronger. More dangerous. His mesmerizing eyes see everything. I should run away, but instead, I run to him.

He needs my help to get to Earth—and in return, he thinks he can save me. I know better. There’s no hope for me. I’ll die here. But I can’t let that happen to him. He deserves better than this place.

Better than me.

So, while I can give him my body, I can never give him my heart. Because in this place, love is an anomaly. It can’t be trusted.

I can only pray I have the strength to let him go when the time comes…

I enjoyed this steamy story. It was short and told the story of Ailee and Reece. Ailee was a human that lived on a planet and was being called to work in the mines, a fate that would bring death to her because of the chemicals and conditions she would have to be around. She meets Reece on the eve before she was scheduled to start working the mines and knows he is adventurous and mysterious so hangs out with him for the night. What Ailee doesn't know is that Reece is a Gemini, a super-human humanoid that is very strong and has many powers. They end up really enjoying each others company and things get pretty steamy between them. Now Reece wants to get Ailee of the planet and save her from the mines, but Ailee is planning on going anyway to safe her sister. This story was short, exciting, and steamy in places. I hope the author plans on writing more stories so we can learn more about the side characters and their stories as well. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I don’t normally read sci-fi but for Nicolina Martin I overcame my bias and I am glad I did. This story is, on the face of it a sweet little love story, but to me there were more levels. Familial love, physical love with Reece, Ailee’s love for her parents and her sadness that her dad has to see her leave and above all her love for her sister whom she will protect with everything she has. There is also the level of prejudice and how it colours our views of those that are different. Reece is a Gemini and Ailee thinks she hates him, but when she gets to know him she réalisés how good and kind he is she does everything to try and save him. The ending is both sweet and hopeful and is perfect for this time of year.

This is a short read that is packed with adventure and an emotional rollercoaster. Reese and Ailee are great together and I really enjoyed their story. The story is unique and has good world building. This is an incredible, page turning dark sci-fi alien romance.
