About this ebook

Daniel Defoeโ€™s The Further Adventures of Robinson Crusoe is a novel written in the early 18th century as a sequel to his famous work, Robinson Crusoe. This story follows the protagonist, Robinson Crusoe, after he has left the island where he spent many years and returned home. In the opening of the novel, Crusoe reflects on his past solitude and adventures while grappling with an internal conflictโ€”he is curious about the current state of the island he once ruled. Though he has settled into a stable life, the adventurous spirit and wanderlust that have always defined him continue to stir within. Following the death of his wife, he begins to question the meaning of his existence and ultimately decides to return to the island. While maintaining the themes of exploration and survival, this sequel delves deeper into the complexities of human emotions and internal struggles. As Crusoe revisits the world he once created, he confronts his past, the remnants of his former life, and the emotions tied to what he left behind. The novel vividly portrays the instinct for adventure, the longing for the unknown, and the emotional weight of solitude and regret, setting the stage for yet another journey.

About the author

Daniel Defoe (1661โ€“1731) was an English writer, journalist, and trader, best known as the author of Robinson Crusoe (1719), one of the earliest English novels. Born into a family of dissenters, he engaged in various business ventures but faced frequent financial troubles. He was also a prolific political pamphleteer, often expressing controversial opinions that led to his imprisonment. Defoeโ€™s works reflect his keen interest in economics, politics, and human survival, blending fiction with realism. Besides Robinson Crusoe, his other notable works include Moll Flanders (1722) and A Journal of the Plague Year (1722). His writing style combined adventure with social commentary, influencing the development of the modern novel. Despite his literary success, he struggled with debts throughout his life. His impact on literature remains significant, as he pioneered realistic storytelling and first-person narration, shaping the English novel tradition.
