Yo no he intentado añadir una obra más á las excelentes que tenemos en castellano sobre la nacion artística y que andan entre las manos de todos. Cuando un pueblo, un monumento, un paisaje, han producido honda impresion en mi ánimo, he tomado la pluma y he puesto empeño en comunicar á mis lectores con toda fidelidad esta impresion. No sigo, pues, órden alguno ni itinerario regular en mi libro. Pongo mis cuadros donde mejor me parece, por lo mismo que no tienen unos relacion con otros. Vuelvo á ciudades de donde parecia haber salido, y creo que cada capítulo forma un librito aparte..."
