About this ebook

A harrowing and inspiring true story of a young boy's abusive childhood, from international bestseller Dave Pelzer.

'A story where love, kindness, patience and endurance triumph' Daily Mail

*****

Brutally beaten and starved by his emotionally unstable and alcoholic mother, Dave became a slave; he was no longer a boy, but an 'it'. His bed was an old army cot in the basement, his clothes torn and unwashed, and when he was allowed the luxury of food it was scraps from the dog's bowl. The outside world knew nothing of the nightmare played out behind closed doors. But throughout it all, Dave kept alive dreams of finding a family to love him.

A Child Called 'It' shares the emotional story of the early years of his life, detailing the horrors of child abuse and the steadfast determination of one child to survive. It is the first book in the My Story trilogy.

A nail biting experience of discovering the horrors of how someone goes through in the early years of their life being dehumanised to a thing. A must read, in particular if you're a parent as I believe this book will help you not only take fewer things for granted but pour more of your heart and soul with warmth-filled love to your child knowing there are others who have been mistreated in unimaginable ways that you'll do even more than before to stray further away from these sort of things after reading this book. Strongly recommended.

This book is an amazing read. Dave shows an amzing strength throughout. Even when his mother is at her worst! He never loses hope. Even though she dose everything she can to beat him down and crush all his hopes and dreams, Dave is able to get away and eventually start a life. I would throughly recomend these books to anyone and to everyone. I've read this one and A Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave. All very amazing and very inspireing to want you make sure no child ever has to endure what Dave did. Plus Dave also gives hope and streangth to anyone who has also seen the horrors that Dave did. Hats off to Dave Pelzer for facing a human eivil and coming out the other end of the dark tunnel. For those who have read Dave's book's you may also want to check out A Brother's Journey by Dave's brother Richard.

I still have the book, sold every other book I had on eBay but yet I couldn't bring myself to let go of this book. I could not imagine torturing my 7 yr old son the way Dave's mother did to him. So happy he was able to move on + build an incredible life for himself although I'm certain he could never forget how his own mother destroyed his childhood + his heart. An excellent book, sad + I cried throughout.
