Als "banal, kitschig, trivial" wurde Literatur von Frauen oftmals gelabelt, wie Nicole Seifert beklagt. Dies trifft auf die hier ausgewählten Autorinnen mitnichten zu. Die besondere literarische Qualität, die sie verbindet, liegt ohnehin jenseits ihres Frauseins. Die Reihe "Schriftstellerinnen" trägt zur besseren Sichtbarkeit deutschsprachiger Autorinnen seit 1940 bei. In Band V werden Brigitte Kronauer, Monika Maron, Gertrud Leutenegger und Sibylle Berg präsentiert. Von den jüngeren Autorinnen wurden u. a. Antje Rávik Strubel, Nora Bossong und Nino Haratischwili ausgewählt. Es geht um Vielfalt, um unterschiedliche Stimmen und Genres.
