About this ebook

Sometimes the most shattered souls make the fiercest protectors.

When a virus decimates civilization, those remaining must survive in an unrecognizable world.

Elle awakes from her fever forever changed. Her touch is lethal and power courses through her veins like liquid fire. With four orphaned children depending on her, Elle is terrified of more than Alaska’s brutal winter and the collapsing city—she’s terrified of the darkness growing inside her.

Jackson lost everything to the outbreak: his family, his purpose, his hope. Trading his badge for a bottle of bourbon, he holes himself away, desperate to numb the pain. But when Elle and the kids need help, the walls around his heart begin to crack. Determined to get everyone to safety, Jackson leads them into the wilderness, relying on instinct and the traditions of his people to keep them safe.

Only now, in a world where the greatest threats aren’t the cold or starvation, but what humanity has become, new monsters lurk in the shadows, capable of impossible things.

The longer Jackson clings to his grief and Elle hides her devastating secrets, the more they risk losing not only each other, but everything they’re fighting to save. And to survive what’s coming, they’ll have to shed the past. Because family isn’t about blood, it’s about who you’d die to protect and who you’d dare to live for.

A soul-stirring tale of found family, impossible choices, and the courage to fight for hope when darkness feels endless.

Loved the poignancy of loss, the shock and trauma. Wait. That came out wrong. The catastrophe of the viral outbreak was masterfully crafted; global disaster on a scale human and small enough to be engaged. A great read, and I am literally about to buy the series from the author's website. Inclusion of Original People in a non-exotified manner and indeed relevant to the plot. Fantastic series!

Just what you want in a book! Engaging characters testing themselves in an interesting environment, ending nicely but also open and interesting enough to want to read the next one. Well done!

Lindsey Pogue is a fiction author, whose adventures include the post-apocalyptic survival saga, Savage North Chronicles, the weather-ravaged Victorian Forgotten Lands, and the virus-riddled world of The Ending. Her other love stories include the small town, blue-collar, new adult trilogy, Saratoga Falls Love Stories.

Lindsey is a dyslexic, taco loving nature girl who enjoys sunsets, bonfires, and a nice cold gin lemonade on a warm summer night. She wrote her first story about birds in 3rd grade, completed her first new adult manuscript in high school, and has been writing tales of love and friendship, history and adventure ever since. When she's not plotting her next epic storyline, or dreaming up new, brooding characters, she's wrapped in blankets watching monster flicks with her own leading man. Lindsey and her husband live in Northern California with their rescue cat, Beast.
