About this ebook

Bridgerton fans and readers of Madeline Hunter, Eloisa James, and Lisa Kleypas won’t want to miss this humorous and clever new love story from the historical romance legend.

“Smart, sexy historical romance…a perfectly fashioned love story rich in smoldering sexual chemistry, sharp wit, and a dash of danger.” —Booklist

“A brilliant conclusion to a fun and entertaining series.” Romance Junkies

Along with his stepsiblings, Sheridan Wolfe, Duke of Armitage, is determined to finally solve the mysteries behind the suspicious deaths of their mother’s three husbands. Tasked with investigating a possible suspect, Sheridan finds himself in dangerous proximity to her captivating daughter, Vanessa Pryde. But still haunted by a tragically lost love, the duke is resolved to resist the attraction—and avoid any “scheming” husband-hunters. Besides, lovely Miss Pryde seems utterly smitten with a roguish London playwright . . .

Vanessa thinks a little scheming may be in order—for it’s Sheridan she truly has her sights, and her heart, set on. Her theatrical flirtation is intended only to break through his business-like demeanor and guarded emotions. And as Sheridan’s jealousy becomes aroused, the two soon find themselves propelled into a scheme of an altogether different kind, involving a pretend engagement, a secret inquiry—and a perhaps not-so-secret leap into true love . . .

“Anyone who loves romance must read Sabrina Jeffries!”
—Lisa Kleypas, New York Times bestselling author

“Fans will delight in revisiting Sheridan’s large family in this heated, twisty tale of love and deception.”

Love this!! Vanessa is definitely a jewel amongst her family history, love that she is feisty, smart and strong enough to raise above. Such a fun read, as she ups the ante and the Duke suddenly has his hands full trying to uncover more than one mystery. Never a dull moment, I was caught up in the matters of the heart and the danger surrounding the undercovering of whodunnit. I received a free advanced copy and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is a wonderfully entertaining story with interesting characters, some quite likable, some not. The main focus is on finding who murdered the Dowager Duchess’s three husbands. To that end, Sheridan is to question Lady Eustace about house parties she attended when two of the dukes died. His plan was to pretend to be smitten with her daughter, Vanessa Pryde, who unbeknownst to him, had loved him from afar for a long time. Will he get the answers he needs? Will Vanessa win his heart? Sheridan and Vanessa make a fantastic couple, even though he is resistant due to hurt over the death of his former fiancé, and he thinks she love someone else. There were familiar characters and some new ones. I love Vanessa’s Uncle Noah (he caught them kissing in the park). As all the clues come together, including a last-minute surprise, the mystery is solved. Great story, awesome characters, and a lovely epilogue to wrap everything up. I received an ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

What a great ending to this exceptional series! I love a heroine who knows what she wants. Put her in a historical romance where society’s conventions put a restraint on those desires, and that provides all kinds of fun outcomes. Ms. Jeffries took Vanessa’s desire for Sheridan and turned his world upside down. I loved how Vanessa was smart enough to maneuver the situation to fit her needs. Sheridan didn’t have a clue he was being gently manipulated. Watching Sheridan manipulate Vanessa, unknowing that he was the one being manipulated, was just too much fun. It was plain to see how he truly felt, despite his ignorance of his own feelings. Give me a hero that is jealous to the point of acting impetuously, one that is protective beyond reason, and I’m a happy reader. Poor Sheridan. He never had a clue. This is a fast read with so much wit and fun throughout, involving all the characters from the series. I adore the way this family harassed each other with love. There is plenty of drama as the whole group continues to investigate who the murderer might be. Along with the relationship angst between Sheridan and Vanessa, there are also some pretty hot and steamy scenes with this couple. Overall, a perfect book to wrap things up all while giving us a happily ever after for Sheri
