Jonas Salk, facing antisemitism and the rebuke of the scientific community, developed the Salk Vaccine that irradicated polio from the face of the earth. Felix Frankfurter, who came to America at 12 speaking no English, would be appointed a U.S. Supreme Court Justice, and help write the unanimous opinion in Brown v. the Board of Education declaring school segregation in the United States illegal.

About the author
In 2021, Ronnyjane Goldsmith--public servant, entrepreneur and philanthropist--added author to her moniker with the publication of Temple Made: Profiles in Grit . She now announces the publication of a new must-read book, CCNY Made: Profiles in Grit . Like the alumni she profiles, Goldsmith (BA, MA, PhD) began life at the bottom and found success through luck and determination but most importantly grit. The proceeds from CCNY Made are dedicated to the Delancey Street Fund. Established by Goldsmith in 2018, the Delancey Street Fund is named after the street of the same name in New York City that gave immigrants to America a chance for a better life. The fund provides assistance to students without financial resources who are facing catastrophic life events.
