About this ebook

The bestselling author of The Hedgerow Handbook and Foraging With Kids shows us how to gather and use traditional herbs to boost wellbeing and scatter a little magic over our lives. Discover the ancient Nine Herbs Spell and learn to create your own!

Forage in the footsteps of the witches who gathered plants for the medieval Nine Herbs Charm, and explore the traditional powers of the herbs all around you to boost wellbeing.

Divided into three parts, this book first reminds us of the wonder of the Nine Herbs Spell (also known as the Lacnunga) – the herbs that were most useful for medicine, food and magic in the early medieval period. Author Adele then constructs her own version of the charm with common herbs used today. In part three, readers can create their own nine herb charms from a long list of herbs, fungi and mosses, all with their uses listed too.

  • Part 1: The Nine Herbs Spell: Discover the original nine herbs: mugwort, broad-leafed plantain, betony, shepherds purse, chamomile, stinging nettle, crab apple, chervil and wild thyme.
  • Part 2: The Modern Nine Herbs Spell: The charm updated for modern magic: parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, fennel, rosemary, ground elder, wild mint and oregano.
  • Part 3: Make Your Own Nine Herbs Spell: Select your own nine herbs to create the charm that works for you.

This book offers a fun new way to explore foraging and the use of herbs, discovering little-known treasures along the way, along with their uses, their history and cultivation tips too.
