माइक्रोसॉफ्ट और कई अन्य बड़ी आई.टी. कंपनियों की तरह गूगल ने बीते वर्षों में बहुत ज्यादा गलतियाँ नहीं की हैं। ऐसा तो नहीं कहा जा सकता कि गूगल के लिए अब तक की राह बहुत आसान रही है; क्योंकि अमेजन; माइक्रोसॉफ्ट; एप्पल और अन्य कंपनियों के साथ उसे कड़ी प्रतिस्पर्धा का सामना करना पड़ा है। परंतु इतना जरूर कहा जा सकता है कि गूगल के हाल के ज्यादातर प्रोडक्ट्स की कहानी सकारात्मक रही है; जिनमें गलतियाँ तलाशना आलोचकों या विश्लेषकों के लिए आसान काम नहीं है। वस्तुतः; बाजार में इस तरह के सफल उत्पाद लाने की पिचाई की काबिलियत की गूगल के सह-संस्थापक लैरी पेज ने पहले ही तारीफ की थी। अब; जबकि वही पिचाई स्वयं ड्राइवर की सीट पर पहुँच गए हैं तो यह देखना दिलचस्प होगा कि वह गूगल की गाड़ी को किस दिशा में ले जाते हैं। दूसरे; पहले से देखें तो ऐसे लोग भी हैं; जो हाल के वर्षों में नव-प्रवर्तन की दिशा में गूगल की धीमी गति को लेकर उसकी आलोचना करते रहे हैं। ऐसे में; नव-सृजित अल्फाबेट (Alphabet) को होल्डिंग कंपनी के रूप में खड़ा करने के लैरी पेज के निर्णय से आलोचकों का मुँह बंद हो सकता है। ऐसे में; पिचाई के लिए जरूरी हो जाता है कि गूगल जो भी कर रहा है; उसमें उसे बेहतर बनाने पर अपना ध्यान केंद्रित करें। समय के साथ-साथ गूगल स्वयं नव-प्रवर्तन में सक्षम हो जाएगा।
