Kurt Edler war Lehrer in Hamburg und leitete von 2004?–2015 das Referat Gesellschaft am Landesinstitut für Lehrerbildung und Schulentwicklung. Er ist Vorsitzender der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Demokratiepädagogik und von der KMK beauftragter Länderkoordinator beim Europarats-Programm "Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights".
