The Zippo Manufacturing Company was founded in 1932 in Bradford, Pennsylvania, by George G. Blaisdell, who designed the first Zippo lighter in 1933; since then, Zippo has produced nearly four hundred million lighters. Linda L. Meabon has worked for the Zippo Manufacturing Company for thirty-six years. She began her career at Zippo in 1967 as a secretary in the consumer relations department and was promoted to manager in 1985. When the Zippo/Case Visitors' Center opened in 1997, Meabon became the museum curator and historian. In addition to her responsibilities at the visitors' center, she provides information to Zippo collectors worldwide. George B. Duke is the grandson of George G. Blaisdell and is the owner of the Zippo Manufacturing Company.
