This book intends to provide the lessons and efforts on malaria control and elimination practices in several classical endemic areas with different transmission characteristics. The book collects seven cases on malaria surveillance and response based on the 1-3-7 approach in Jiangsu Province, the border malaria control and elimination in Yunnan Province, the fight against malaria among forest goers in the mountainous areas in Hainan island, the focal mass drug administration for Plasmodium vivax control in Anhui Province, the vector control response to malaria re-emergence in Henan Province, and the review of discovery history of artemisinin, as well as the international promotion of ACTs. The book is likely to be of interest to professionals/practitioners and policy makers in government or industry in the field of malaria control and prevention, and related researchers, especially in the malaria transmission areas targeting malaria elimination.

About the author

Professor Xiao-Nong Zhou is Chief Scientist of the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Chinese Center for Tropical Diseases Research) and Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Tropical Diseases. He has also been Vice Dean, School of Global Health, Chinese Center for Tropical Diseases Research, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and Director, One Health Center, Shanghai Jiao Tong University-The University of Edinburgh since 2019. Professor Zhou is a leading expert in the research and control of parasitic diseases, with over 40 years’ experience in the field through One Health approaches. He also had long-term cooperation experiences with the World Health Organization and served as member of international expert committees. Professor Zhou has been invited to make keynote speech or reports at more than 50 international academic conferences, participated in the compilation and publication of 8 monographs, and written extensively on parasitology and parasitic diseases with more than 400 peer review publications in the international journals.

Professor Jian-Hai Yin is Deputy Chief of Key Laboratory of Parasite and Vector Biology in the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Chinese Center for Tropical Diseases Research). He has been engaged in the research and control of parasitic diseases over 10 years, mainly including malaria, echinococcosis and intestinal protozoan infections. He also participated in the compilation and publication of 5 monographs, and published more than 100 peer review publications in the journals.
