Über dieses E-Book

Wolfbane is a science fiction novel by American writers Frederik Pohl and C. M. Kornbluth, published in 1959. It was serialized in Galaxy in 1957, with illustrations by Wally Wood. In his review column for F&SF, Damon Knight selected the novel as one of the 10 best genre books of 1959. This science fiction novel takes place in the year 2203, if we take literally the age of 250 years given for a Korean War identity bracelet that is dated 1953. A rogue planet, populated by strange machines known as Pyramids, has stolen the Earth from the Solar system, taking it off into interstellar space. The moon has been 'ignited' by alien technology to serve as a miniature sun around which both planets orbit. This new sun is rekindled every 5 years, though as the book opens, the rekindling is nearly overdue and there is fear among the populace that it may never happen again.

Autoren-Profil

Cyril M. Kornbluth (1923-1958) was a pioneering American science fiction writer whose work remains influential in the genre. Born in New York City, Kornbluth was a prodigy, joining the Futurians, a group of young science fiction enthusiasts, in his teens. This collective included future luminaries like Isaac Asimov and Frederik Pohl, with whom Kornbluth would later collaborate extensively.Kornbluth's writing is marked by its satirical edge and darkly humorous take on societal issues, often critiquing consumerism, bureaucracy, and the dehumanizing aspects of technology. His stories are known for their incisive wit and prescient insights, making him a favorite among readers who appreciate speculative fiction that challenges the status quo.One of Kornbluth's most significant contributions was his collaboration with Frederik Pohl, producing classics like "The Space Merchants," which remains a seminal work in dystopian literature. Their partnership was revolutionary, blending Kornbluth's sharp narrative style with Pohl's editorial prowess to create stories that were both entertaining and thought-provoking.Despite his relatively short life, Kornbluth's impact on the science fiction genre is profound. His work has inspired contemporary writers to explore complex themes with a critical eye, ensuring his legacy endures. Notably, Kornbluth's untimely death at the age of 34 has added a layer of tragic allure to his already compelling life story, making him a figure of enduring fascination in literary circles.
