This is two novellas featuring the Rookie K-9 Unit Officers and their Dogs. Surviving Christmas by Valerie Hansen Officer Zoe Trent is partnered with Freya, a Belgian Tervuren. Her college friend, Sean Murray, calls her for help. He has just returned from war suffering PTSD and finds that not only is someone following him ... someone wants him dead. He's worried not so much about himself, but he has a young son who survived a near drowning and his mother is dead. If something happens to him, where will his son go? Zoe immediately offers her home to him and his son. She and her K-9 partner will make sure this is not their last Christmas. Holiday High Alert by Lenora Worth Officer Dalton West is partnered with Luna, a brindle mutt. Dalton is a single dad. His daughter, Maisy, attends the daycare center owned and run by Josie Callahan. When Josie receives threatening notes and is stalked, Dalton vows to protect Josie and the children she loves and cares for. I have not read any of the K-9 series, but I found these two stories to be well written with very likeable characters. My favorites, though, are the dogs in the K-9 Unit. No dogs were injured in the writing of these stories. These are great Christmas stories for those that like a little Christmas gift wrapped around a good mystery. Although a part of a series, these are stand-alone and need not be read in any particular order. My thanks to the authors / Harlequin (US & Canada) / Netgalley.
