This seminal series, first edited by Ernest Eliel, responsible for some of the major advances in stereochemistry and the winner of the ACS Priestley Medal in 1996, provides coverage of the major developments of the field of stereochemistry. Norman "Lou" Allinger is an American organic and computational chemist and Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at the University of Georgia in Athens.

Ernest Ludwig Eliel was an organic chemist born in Cologne, Germany. Among his awards were the Priestley Medal in 1996 and the NAS Award for Chemistry in Service to Society in 1997.
