About this ebook

Jewish vampire Zane, a bodyguard fueled by a violent past and a burning thirst for vengeance, wants nothing to do with his new assignment: protecting Portia, a headstrong vampire-hybrid whose father is dead set on preserving her virginity. Zane’s heart, scarred by the horrors of the Holocaust, beats only for revenge against his tormentors. Compassion is a weakness he long ago abandoned.

But Portia has her own agenda. Time is running out. In a matter of weeks, her body will set into its permanent vampire form, sealing her fate as a virgin for eternity. To avoid this, she needs a lover, and fast—a desperate quest her overprotective father has hired Zane to prevent.

The moment their paths cross, an undeniable, explosive attraction ignites, shattering Zane’s rigid control and challenging Portia’s desperate timeline. Their forbidden desire burns hotter than the hell of Zane’s past, threatening to consume them both. Can they overcome their ingrained prejudices, trading hatred for love and vengeance for forgiveness, before Zane’s demons from the past tear them apart forever?

ABOUT THE SERIES

The Scanguards Vampires series is full of fast-paced action, scorching love scenes, witty dialogue, and strong heroes and heroines. Vampire Samson Woodford lives in San Francisco and owns a security/bodyguard company, Scanguards, which employs both vampires and humans. And eventually some witches. Throw in a few immortal guardians and demons later in the series, and you'll get the drift! Each book can be read as a standalone and always centers around a new couple finding love, but the series is more enjoyable when read in order. And of course, there are always a few running jokes - you'll understand when you meet Wesley, a wannabe witch. Enjoy!

3.5 stars — And I’m finally onto a non-reread in this series, so this one was all brand-new for me! I’m not sure what I was expecting from Zane’s story, but it went into some different directions than I had been anticipating. At the same time I totally saw quite a few of the twists coming, and I grew impatient at times for those reveals to happen. Apparently patience is not *my* virtue. I actually liked what happened with Zane’s character, but at the same time I had a hard time reconciling it with the truly sociopathic individual we were presented with in the previous books. Like, I got it to a degree, he was driven by hate and vengeance…but I didn’t feel like we got a good enough explanation for his almost glee for pain and violence. But maybe that was just me. My heart did hurt for what he’d been through, and the things we learned about his past though. And I was so angry with the other vampires for not seeing that there was more to him…seeing beneath his outer shell. But I loved that they tried to soften him with Z and stuff…that amused the heck out of me, even as I wanted to smack Zane for how he’d talk to the puppy sometimes. Then we have Portia. I can’t decide how I feel about Portia. She was put into a very awkward position, and I empathized with what she was going through herself, and her struggle to go against what her father wanted for the first time in her life. But she was a serious brat towards Zane…she came across really young, even younger than almost 21. I got it, but it didn’t make me want to be friends with her or anything. I think she mellowed and became more likable at the end of the book though. And I sympathized with the crazy position she was put in with her family. As per usual, there was a strong lust component between these characters. At least in this one we got to see a *bit* of a romance part at the cabin, but it’s still a love heavily predicated on lust and attraction. *shrugs* I enjoyed the plot, but as I said I saw the twists coming and thus became impatient when things felt drawn out. There were a few bits of plot that I felt weren’t resolved to my liking, which was a bummer. I liked the glimpses of some different characters in this one, like Quinn and Oliver. I LOVED the little Isabelle story, though I kinda wished the last chapter had encapsulated the ceremony. All in all this was a solid book in the series. I’m intrigued by the rest of the books, but likely not enough to pay full price for them. I’m currently trying to convince my library that they need copies. 😛

Zane is power and pleasure all rolled into one and the perfect candidate to pick her cherry. With her creul father intending to keep her a virgin until her change Portia must convince Zane of her fathers creul plot and lose her viginity before her body makes the change in 5 weeks. For when she turns 21 her body will be trapped in that state forevermore.

I found this series by accident a few years ago & not knowing the order, started with Amaury's Hellion first. I've been hooked ever since. From day one I've been curious about Zane. & his book Redemption was I think my fave next to Yvette. I'm still shocked that someone could turn this out of control, lose cannon if you will vampire into a total glob of putty! Don't want to give too much away, but I'm I'm love with this series! Already read them 3xs
