I read this book, quite awhile ago. It's one of those that has stayed with me. Sometimes I find myself, as I go about my day, mentally "re-reading" , this true account of the Marines in Korea, who desperately and grimly, hung on to this strategic area of the Chosin Reservoir, for many, many days, besieged by the enemy. The book tells of the soldiers day to day challenges to survive and to care for themselves, their wounded and their dead, as they found themselves surrounded and forced to live outdoors, in the arctic temperatures. The soldier's only shelter being the foxholes they had hacked out of the frozen ground. All the while, fending off repeated attacks from enemy forces and holding their ground, as long as possible. Which they did, with determination, courage, and "grit", which comes from the word,"integrity". I remain in awe. My respect and admiration the "Frozen Chosen" knows no bounds. If I'm cold, hungry, or challenged by a situation now, I think of them, and persevere.
