Il ne le fait pas exprès, simplement, il est très doué pour apprendre les langues. Ce qui lui permet de travailler pour des gens comme Portnoy, toujours à la recherche de vieux livres d'exception.
Mais cette fois-ci, le manuscrit qu'il lui confie est rédigé dans un langage qui ne ressemble à rien de connu. John en est sûr, il est incapable de traduire cet ouvrage... mais Portnoy lui offre pour cela une sacrée somme - en bref, c'est un travail qui ne se refuse pas.
Et tandis que John se confronte à ce livre mystérieux, d'étranges événements surviennent soudain dans sa vie d'ordinaire si routinière...

درباره نویسنده
Né en 1965 à Knutsford, dans le Cheshire, Michael Marshall Smith est le prodige britannique de la littérature de genre : il a fait éclater la SF avec Avance rapide ou Frères de chair avant de s'imposer comme l'un des grands maîtres du thriller et de la terreur avec Les Hommes de paille, Le Sang des anges et Les Intrus qui trustent les listes de meilleures ventes en France et dans le monde entier. Habitué des prix littéraires, il a également vu les droits de deux de ses romans achetés par Steven Spielberg. Il vit à Londres, avec sa femme et son fils.
