About the author

Tanya Lloyd Kyi is the author of more than 25 fiction and nonfiction books for young readers, including This Is Your Brain on Stereotypes and Me and Banksy. She loves stories about science, history and pop culture, or various combinations of the three. Because Tanya works in the early mornings, while Julia prefers to write late at night, the two communicate mainly through Google Docs...and occasionally at the dinner table. Tanya and Julia live in Vancouver, BC.

Julia Kyi is a 17-year-old student and activist. Along with her friends Adelaide and Aishwarya, she runs a chapter of Girls Learn International, as well as The Daily Feminist, a workshop series for middle-grade students. You can find the organization on Instagram at @thedailyfeminist_education. Julia enjoys writing spoken-word poetry and reading sad books. In the future she’s planning to complete a social justice degree before applying to law school. She’s an avid user of Instagram and TikTok, and a believer in the power of social media to make positive change. She wanted to be part of Better Connected because she knows girls can make a difference across the internet, and she was tired of hearing about only the negatives. You can find her reading one of her many library books or telling her mom that teens don’t say “YOLO.”
