About this ebook

The threat of natural resource depletion due to high energy demands has become a key concern in both the developed and developing worlds. To alleviate these concerns, researchers around the world are exploring sustainable methods for generating energy.

Innovative Solutions in Fluid-Particle Systems and Renewable Energy Management presents phenomenological, experimental, and theoretical research, as well as market criteria and business models concerning the development of small- and large-scale chemical and energy plants. Associating academic and industrial experiences, this book highlights current topics in sustainable energy management and development with an emphasis on obtaining liquid, gaseous, and solid fuels using residues and energetic biomasses. Academicians, researchers, and technology developers will find this book useful in furthering their own knowledge and research in this field.

A pivotal publication in the field of engineering, this title covers a range of topics including, among others, cellulosic feedstock, agricultural biomass, fluid dynamics, gasification processes, energy extraction from raw materials, and environmental sustainability.

About the author

Katia Tannous is graduated in Chemical Engineering at University of Caxias do Sul (1985), Master in Chemical Engineering at University of Campinas (1989) and PhD in Chemical Engineering at Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse (1993). She conducted post-doctorate at University of Waterloo in 2000, on polymerization of polyethylene using metallocene catalyst. In 2004, she became an expert in distance education and training of human resources at Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas. In 2010 and 2012, she made postdoctoral internships at The University of British Columbia working with flow ability, storage, and fluid dynamics in fluidized beds using different kinds of biomass. She is currently associate professor in the School of Chemical Engineering at University of Campinas. She has 25 years´ experiences in the fluidization technology focusing on industrial applications related on food, pharmaceutical products, and biomass, and also bioenergy. Extending her technical work, she has developed researches in distance education correlating software and web environment, as well as applying new methodologies and techniques in the education of chemical engineers.
