About this ebook

One kiss shattered my defenses. One secret could destroy us both.

I don’t believe in love at first sight—or love at first anything. But the moment Emmaline Andersson walked into my life, she turned my world upside down. She’s a contradiction I can’t figure out—her sharp wit matches her wicked charm, and after one kiss, I’m hooked. I want her body, sure, but it’s her heart I’m really after.

The problem? The more I try to get close, the more she pulls away. And as I dig deeper, I find that my secrets are nothing compared to the ones she’s hiding. When her past threatens to tear us apart, I have to prove that love can conquer even the darkest of fears—even death itself.

3.5 Stars This one was a little hard for me to get into. I wasn't a huge fan of Declan in the beginning, but farther I got into the book my opinion of him changed. By the end he had me won over. Declan and Em have chemistry and this book delivers on the heat. Declan's family dynamics are interesting and you can feel a strain between the brothers. This is definitely a book that gets better the more you read.

This was okay for me. The writing flows well, but again it's hard for me to like these characters. This series is a big change from what this author usually writes, and the characters I'm used to. While these brothers have real problems, all I hear is how their dad is manipulating them and they won't get their inheritance. Declan comes across as a jerk, and it takes a long time before I could see him as anything else. Emmaline had her own problems, and it was interesting to see how they each dealt with them. While I'm still not the biggest fan of this series, I think it's more a my preference thing, and not a bad book thing. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.

I enjoyed this read. It was very emotional. Emmaline and Declan had good chemistry and I liked them as a couple. Both these characters have wounds and secrets. They are not the easiest characters to connect with. You have to peel back their layers as you read to get to the real them and then these characters are more relatable. These two are opposites in so many ways but emotionally I felt they had plenty in common. The story has an overall angsty feel that I feel will either appeal to you or be a turn-off. A very good addition to this series, that left me looking forward to book three.

About the author

USA Today Bestselling Author TS Layne discovered the Harlequin stacks at her local library when she was twelve, and began a life-long love affair with all things filthy and romantic. She writes Hot Alpha Cowboys and Heroes under the pen name Tessa Layne. Between the two names she’s written 22 books and counting.

TS loves travel and adventure of all kinds, is a voracious reader of romance (the smuttier the better), historical fiction, biographies, travel memoirs and cookbooks.

TS fell in love with her sexy, geeky, musician of a husband faster than the characters in the novels she writes, and divides her time between the Flint Hills and the Rocky Mountains, where she lives with said sexy spouse, two children and two misbehaved cats.

All of her books contain sexy Alpha heroes- some badder than others- smart sassy heroines who don’t pull their punches, and happy endings that just might have you reaching for the tissues.
