Often overshadowed by its neighbors, Kenya and Tanzania, Uganda offers a more intimate safari experience—free from massive crowds and rushing vehicles. With its varied habitats and nearly 1,000 bird species, it remains a gem for wildlife and birding enthusiasts.
This book takes readers on a journey through Uganda’s wilderness—from close encounters with hippos in Lake Mburo and vast herds of buffalo in remote Kidepo Valley to intimate moments with gorilla families in Bwindi and chimpanzees in Kibale. Walking among giraffes in Lake Mburo and tracking rhinos in Ziwa, Sunil and Vani experience nature in its purest form.
Sunil’s evocative images bring these moments to life, reflecting patience, perseverance, and a deep passion for storytelling. Through stunning imagery and compelling narratives, this book inspires nature lovers and travelers alike to appreciate and protect the extraordinary planet we are so lucky to inherit.
Sunil is a photographer who has been taking pictures for many years, with a particular focus on nature and wildlife. He hopes to raise awareness about the need to protect the environment and biodiversity through his work. Before becoming a full-time photographer, Sunil worked in a variety of fields, including product management, solutions architecture, user experience design, marketing communications, and filmmaking. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in aerospace engineering and visual communication from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai.
According to the World Wildlife Fund, the current rate of species loss is significantly higher than normal. Sunil believes that we can still take action to reverse this trend, and he hopes that his photographs will help to raise awareness about the issue. Awareness is the first step, one image at a time.

Vani is an architect and avid bird enthusiast who has a passion for observing and learning about wildlife in their natural habitats. She has traveled to various UNESCO-protected areas and has seen firsthand the impact of human actions on the environment, including the almost extinct whale species she encountered on a whale-watching trip in Baja California.
Vani has a degree in architecture and a graduate degree in product design from the Industrial Design Center, Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai. She is a licensed architect in California and has worked as a project architect on corporate and healthcare projects in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Traveling to various protected wildlife habitats has helped Vani understand the importance of biodiversity and the fragility of ecosystems. Inspired by the work of Jane Goodall she wants to work on conservation by first bringing awareness of what each of us as individuals can contribute in small yet significant ways.
