GK Sudeep – an Indian author, poet, journalist & screenwriter, was born on April 1,1942 in Gojramandi district of Punjab in British India and died at 78 yrs age on June 25, 2020, in Mumbai, India. ‘Sudeep’ is considered as one of the main pillars of contemporary Hindi and Indian literature. He is the author of four short-story collections, three novels, four biographies and one memoir. Nearly sixty of his short stories have been published in various Indian magazines and book anthologies. A lesser-known fact is that Sudeep's writing career actually started as a poet. At the prestigious Indian National Poets’ event in 1959, after witnessing the recital of his songs and poems – India’s then famous poet laureate Suryakant Tripathi 'Nirala' bestowed upon 17-year-old Gulshan Kumar - the nickname 'Sudeep’. Going forward, to honour this affectionate recognition, young Gulshan Kumar adopted the pen name 'Sudeep’. During the four decades from 1960 to 2000, Sudeep's poems and songs were published in numerous Indian magazines including Tribune, Jansatta, Sabrang, Navbharat Times, Sunday Mail, Nutan Savera, Sarika, Dharmayug, Dainik Bhaskar and Sambodhan. Sudeep’s most recent released books in Hindi language include a songs collection - Mere Geet Kheench Layenge (2025), a memoir - Panipat ki Yaaden (2024) and short story collection - Anhad Naad (re-released as e-book in 2024).
