My mother's family knew the author forty five or so years ago. He was very quiet and strange and loved baseball. This comic had a very disturbing effect on a childhood friend of mine who was vulnerable to this dark comic, he ended up in the psych ward and i havent heard from him in seventeen years or so. Vanished from my social circle. Probably gone forever. I really think the authors of superviolent comics need to be held accountable for stuff like this. Its not fair they get wealth from vulnerable children's mental illness. Just saying.

SPAWN is amazing, an antihero unlike any other. At a time when almost all comic heroes were traditional goody-two-shoes types who dared not cross a certain boundary, SPAWN was a refreshingly unique break from the norm. He is a hero made for adult readers, and if you thought comic heroes were only meant for kids' nerdy fantasies, SPAWN will change your opinion. Note that this volume and everything in the SPAWN Origins Collection are collected in the more recent and updated (and far cheaper) volumes of the SPAWN Compendium. I advise readers to get that instead of this older version.

One of my favorites from the 90s. Great for adults, not for kids. The movie sucks, the animated series are excellent, and this original graphic novel is outstandingly cool! I have some of the action figures straight out of McFarlane toys within my vault of collections. Thank you, Todd McFarlane. Keep up the great work. :3
