Our Bose family came from East Bengal, which is now in Bangladesh. Our ancestors had gotten land deeds from the Mughal emperor and had a jagir in the area of Ulpur village in Faridpur district. This continued in the British rule of India as well, and we had a large Zamindari bari or house of the landlord. During partition, most of the family being Bengali Hindus, lost their lands and fled west to India, although some remained in Ulpur. There is also a big kali temple and smaller temples there.
This book is a summary of our family and its history. We hope it will be useful to people interested in Indian family histories.
About the author
Siva Prasad Bose is an author of various introductory guidebooks related to aspects of Indian laws. He is currently retired after many years of service in Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited. He received his engineering degree from Jadavpur University, Kolkata and has a law degree from Meerut University, Meerut. His interests lie in the fields of family law, civil law, law of contracts, and areas of law related to power grid and revenue related issues.
