Kayla has worked through and past her magic turning on her, making her a Whisperer, and alienating her from other magicals. Isolated, she became a target for a criminal element to prey on, and later, after living past the death of a friend and mentor, she managed to join law enforcement. A special assignment fresh out of the FBI Academy takes her back to her past roots. Lots of introspection as she deals with others who faced some of the same issues and challenges, and who had different turnings in their paths. Harrowing, tragic and sometimes painfully rewarding.

I really wanted to like this book but I admit to giving up on it part way through. "Unseen Magic" is the 1st in a new series that is supposedly a spin-off of another series by this author. I haven't read the other series, nor should I have to in order to enjoy this book. But the author brought up people, events, and terms without giving any clue as to who or what she was talking about that left me scratching my head. Eventually I began to tie things together after reading quite a bit ("Whisperer" anyone?) but it made for some frustrating moments. Still, I would have persevered had it not been for the huge number of errors. I don't know about others but I find the constant misspelling, syntactical, and grammatical errors too distracting. This was my first time reviewing a book via beansprout. I really dislike leaving negative reviews when it comes to artistic expression so I imagine it will also be my last. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout in exchange for review

3.5 Stars The story is okay, and I understand it is a spinoff of another series but usually spinoffs can stand alone, and this is unfortunately not the case here. This spinoff is heavily relied on the previous series which made it frustrating to read and I struggled to complete it. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
