soon put the squeeze on Mission Doloress grazing cattle, and when the fog lifted, Potrero Hill became the first industrial zone in San Francisco, with iron-smelting plants, butcheries, and shipbuilding dominating the waterfront during the late 19th century. Peter Linenthal directs the Potrero Hill Archives Project, a collection of photographs, oral histories, and ephemera relating to the neighborhood. He is also the driving force behind the annual Hill History Night held each October. Abigail Johnston, a publishing industry veteran, is the managing editor of The Potrero View, the neighborhoods monthly newspaper.
