V.S. Khandekar, is a varied collection. All these essays were written by him between 1925-1976. The topics, their meaningfulness, the incidences and the style; each aspect of every essay is whole on its own. Khandekar always strongly and openly presented his thoughts. They had the definite ability of initiating self-talk in reader’s mind. Those who are interested in understanding the variation and change in India during pre- and post-independence period should not let go this excellent opportunity. The essays have marvelously portrayed the time then.A human life is nothing but reality after chasing the dreams throughout. Life can only be humanistic if the materialistic nature is aligned with emotions and an urge to work towards the betterment of the society. Otherwise, it tends to be nothing more than a ‘may-fly culture.’ It inevitably carries the person towards perversion and abnormalities, distortions and deformities. The present is darkly outlined by lust and inhuman behaviour. On this background, it becomes necessary to read these essays which would enable us to understand the core of humanity.
