This book presents strategies for successfully controlling disrupting behavior in the classroom and explains the techniques used for decreasing inappropriate behavior by using positive and negative reinforcement. The author begins with an examination of children's self-esteem and ways for teachers to motivate students to achieve their best. The book then goes on to examine the connection between motivation and misbehavior and offers insight into approaches to general and specific motivation and how to assess a particular student's motivation to learn. The chapter on planning for problems offers some guidelines and tips for preventing discipline problems and dealing with existing problems before they escalate out of control.
