The author begins with an examination of children's self-esteem and ways for teachers to motivate students to achieve their best. The book then goes on to examine the connection between motivation and misbehavior and offers insight into approaches to general and specific motivation and how to assess a particular student's motivation to learn. The chapter on planning for problems offers some guidelines and tips for preventing discipline problems and dealing with existing problems before they escalate out of control. The author also devotes an entire chapter to example vignettes of problems encountered by teachers with accompanying comments and critique of handling methods. Student Discipline and Classroom Management will be useful for teachers, student teachers, and school administrators to be able to manage the classroom in order to provide the best possible atmosphere to promote student learning.
