When reality gets the magical touch of idealism, only then literature reaches a different dimension…! ... साहित्य ही निरपेक्ष वस्तू नाही. ती कोणाच्यातरी सह जाणारी वस्तू आहे. आपलं मानवी जीवन अनेक निष्ठांच्या बळावर जगलं जातं. साहित्यातून याच निष्ठा साकारत असतात. लेखकाच्या स्वानुभवातून त्याला घडणारं जीवनदर्शन एवढ्यानं साहित्यनिर्मिती होत नसते. त्याचं साहित्य स-हित म्हणजे हितासाहित असावं लागतं. लेखक निव्वळ वास्तवता टिपत नसतो. वास्तवाच्या साऱ्याच गोष्टींनी त्याचं मन भारलं जात नाही; काही गोष्टी त्याच्या अनुभूतीला भिडतात; त्यातूनच त्याचं मन जागं होतं. या वास्तवाच्या अनुभूतींतून जाग्या झालेल्या मनाला कुठंतरी आदर्शाच्या स्पर्श होतो आणि त्याचं साहित्य साकारतं. नुसते सूर्यकिरण पाण्यावर पडून इंद्रधनुष्य उमटत नाही. मेघावरून परावर्तीत झालेले सूर्यकिरण जेव्हा आकाशातून स्त्रवणा-या दवबिंदुंवर पडतात, तेव्हाच सप्तरंगांचं इंद्रधनुष्य प्रगटतं. वास्तवाला आदर्शाचा जेव्हा स्पर्श होतो, तेव्हाच त्या साहित्याला वेगळं रूप लाभतं...! अभिजात साहित्य आणि त्याच्या निर्मितिप्रेरणा यासंदर्भात वेगवेगळ्या निमित्तांनी, वेगवेगळ्या संमेलनांत श्री. रणजीत देसाई यांनी अध्यक्षपदावरून केलेल्या निवडक भाषणांचा एकत्रित संग्रह !
