The literary portrayals that are explored in ‘Samajshilpee’ are written by Jnanpith awardee V.S.Khandekar, which represent the last half of twentieth century. These articles are the most appropriate in the preset days. Today, we have been leading towards self-centred lifestyle. If we want to lead ourselves free from the clutches of Narcism, the reading of this book is the only remedy. Unless and until we live beyond the self, how our attitude will be selfless. If man applies the strategy of self-evaluation, he will be able to envision the open-ended universe. Khandekar’s ‘Samajshilpee’ is very much important from the point of view of cultural values and ethics. For the sake of it, one should read it from within. The inclusion of various social activists, volunteers, freedom fighters, reformers, educationalists, scientists, artists and politicians is an identical representation of total social horizon.

वि. स. खांडेकरांनी `समाजशिल्पी' मध्ये लिहिलेले व्यक्तिलेख विसाव्या शतकातल्या उत्तरार्धातलं लेखन होय. ते आज एकविसाव्या शतकाच्या पूर्वार्धात अधिक प्रस्तुत वाटतं. आपण सारे आज आत्मरत, आत्ममग्न, आत्मवेंâद्री जीवन जगतो आहोत. या नार्सिसिझमच्या चक्रव्यूहातून वर्तमान माणसाला बाहेर काढायचं असेल तर या लेखांचं वाचन हाच त्यावरील उपाय आणि उतारा आहे. आज स्वत:पलीकडे पाहणे जितके महत्त्वाचे तितकेच स्वत:कडे दुसNयाच्या दृष्टीने पाहणे. ही उभयपक्षी स्वमूल्यमापनाची वृत्ती वर्तमान मनुष्य जोवर अंगीकारणार नाही, तोवर स्वत:पलीकडचं व्यापक कृतज्ञ जग दिसणार तरी कसं? या विधायक दृष्टीचा हा खांडेकरी स्वागतशील खटाटोप मूल्यसंस्काराच्या दृष्टीने महत्त्वाचा असल्याने तो मुळातूनच वाचायला हवा. यातील एवूâणएक सामाजिक कार्यकर्ते, समाजसेवक स्वातंत्र्य, सुधारणा, शिक्षण, विज्ञान, कला, राजकारण अशा जीवनाच्या विविध क्षेत्रांचे प्रतिनिधित्व करत समाजाचं समग्र विधायक रूप उभं करतात
