About the author

_ Thierry Meyer studied chemical engineering at the EPFL in Lausanne, graduated in 1989 and stayed on as a Senior Scientist untill 1993. He worked for Ciba-Geigy SA for 4 years before he returned to the EPFL in Lausanne as a group leader. He is responsible for occupational health and safety at the school of basic sciences. He teaches risk management and specific courses on safety aspects in research activities. He is active adviser and expert in risk assessment for chemical engineering matters for the International Chamber of Commerce of the World Business Organization, as well as for several assessment companies and for major chemical industries.

_ Genserik Reniers studied chemical engineering at the University Brussel and graduated from the University of Antwerp, where he lectures in various courses. He engages in Risk Analysis in a Postgraduate Disaster Management at VESTA in Brussel. He coordinates the Antwerp Research Group on Safety and Security and he has extensive experience in leading research projects.

_ Valerio Cozzani obtained his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, University of Pisa, Italy, 1997. B.Sc.+M.Sc. (Laurea Quinquennale) in Chemical Engineering, University of Pisa (Italy), 1992, cum laude (Honors). Currently he is Professor at the School of Engineering and member of the Department of Civil, Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering, University of Bologna. Prof. Cozzani has several years of research experience in the fields of safety and sustainability of industrial processes, loss prevention and innovative environmental technologies. The scientific activity is documented by 200+ peer-reviewed publications (citation indexes, July 2022: H-index 56, 10000+ citations).
