About this ebook

Richard Bach’s first book, Stranger to the Ground is above all else an insight into the character of a man whose great compulsion is to measure himself against storm and night and fear. On the surface it is the tale of a memorable mission of a young fighter pilot utilizing his skills in a lonely duel with death. Yet between the lines emerges the portrait of the airman as a breed, probing outward, but even more significantly, inward.

I wish to explain why I only gave it 4 stars. My 3 favourite books by Richard Bach are this one, Biplane and of course Jonathan Livingston Seagull. I've read all Richard's books but Jonathan is special. That little book always seems to be relevant to me in some different way that I didn't get when I last read it. There is so much to discover in what most see as a child's book about a sea bird. It is so much more so I had to 4 star my other reviews in order to give Jonathan a slightly higher rate. All of Richard's books have hidden depths but I can personally relate to the aviation themed allegories having been Skydiving since the early 80,s. In fact I only discovered Richard due to Jonathan Seagull being the club mascot where I first learnt to skydive. I thought it a silly choice until I read the book and found that Richards magic manages to make Jonathan relevant to everyone everywhere not just those that fly.
