Each chapter explores a world in which history and the republican (and loyalist) interpretation of it dominate lives and deaths. Kevin Toolis was born in Edinburgh of Irish parents. He has written for the New York Times magazine, the Observer and the Guardian and screenplays for Universal Pictures.
