A RENDEZVOUS WITH EDUCATION

Prof. Raj Shree Dhar (M.Sc., M.Phil., Ph.D. in Mathematics) is Principal, Higher Education Department, J&K Government, Jammu & Kashmir, India. She has done M.Phil. in Mathematics on the topic “Location of the zeros of the polynomials in complex variables” in 1986 and Ph.D. in Mathematics on the topic “Shared values and Differential Polynomials of the Entire and Meromorphic functions” from Jammu University. She started teaching PG Mathematics to school teachers in 1987 at Centre for Advanced Studies in Educational Technology (CASET), Karan Nagar, Srinagar and was selected as Lecturer, Vishwa Bharti Women’s college, Rainawari, Srinagar in 1988. She got recruited as Lecturer, Higher Education Department, J&K Government in 1991.

She is the second female in the state who completed her Ph.D. from a J&K university in January 1995. She has organized various workshops, conferences, activities in the college and acted as convener/member of different committees for which she has also received Certificate of Efficiency in 2004 and Best Teacher Award in 2008. She has worked for the establishment of J&K Institute of Mathematical Sciences (JKIMS) under J&K Govt. She has acted as the resource person in the events of various institutions and Radio as well as T.V. Channels for disseminating the knowledge about a career in Mathematics.

She has published research papers in several journals of national and international repute. She has also guided research students. She writes for local dailies on the importance of Mathematics, Astrology, Astronomy and about the reforms needed in education system. Her published books include An Inquiry into Evolution of Mathematics, Gateway to Complex Analysis, and A Rendezvous with Education. She has worked as an Associate Editor for the publications (newsletters & research journals) of Higher Education Department of J&K. She has received the Teacher Innovation Award from Sri Aurobindo Society.
