Dr. Jaisingrao Pawar is one of the most authoritative senior historian. The main subjects of his interest are basically from the Maratha dynasty. They include Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Chhtrapati Rajaram Maharaj and Maharani Tarabai. In addition to this triplet, Dr. Pawar has mastery over another influential tri-star; Mahatma Phule, Rajarshee Shahu and Dr. Ambedkar. Since last four decades Dr. Pawar has dedicated his time and efforts in pursuing history. More than thirty of his books and forty research papers have been published. He has compiled three volumes of ‘Rajarshee Shahu Smarak Granth’ which is a milestone. The ‘Maharashtra Itihas Prabodhini’ established by him in Kolhapur is the leading History Institution providing aid for studies related to history and social reformation. His extensive work has created interest regarding history in the minds of common people. His said book is a collection of many articles; each revealing new dimensions of the great social reformer that Rajarshee Shahu Maharaj was.

राजर्षी शाहू छत्रपतींच्या जीवनकार्यावरील हा लेखसंग्रह आहे. गेल्या दहा-बारा वर्षांत पाक्षिक लोकराज्य, साप्ताहिक सकाळ, दै. पुढारी, दै. सकाळ इत्यादी विविध नियतकालिकांच्या खास अंकांतून प्रसंगविशेषी प्रसिद्ध झालेले लेख आहेत. याशिवाय दोन लेख कोल्हापूरच्या भाई माधवराव बागल विद्यापीठाने आयोजित केलेल्या चर्चासत्रात सादर केलेले ‘शोधनिबंध’ आहेत. ‘ब्राह्मण ब्युरॉक्रसी’ व ‘क्षात्रजगद्गुरू’ या विषयांवरील लेख २००१ मध्ये आम्ही प्रकाशित केलेल्या ‘राजर्षी शाहू स्मारक ग्रंथ’या ग्रंथातून घेतले आहेत. अखिल भारतीयांचा उद्धार करण्याचे व्रत घेतलेल्या या थोर पुरुषाचा तत्कालीन वरिष्ठ वर्णीयांच्या इंग्रजांविरुद्ध चालविलेल्या स्वराज्याच्या हक्काच्या चळवळीसंबंधीचा दृष्टिकोन काय होता, हे त्यावरून समजून येते. राजर्षी शाहू छत्रपतींचा लढा अशा दुसऱ्याला स्वातंत्र्याचे हक्क नाकारणा ऱ्या वर्णवर्चस्ववाद्यांविरुद्ध होता. इंग्रजांकडून राजकीय स्वातंत्र्याचे हक्क मागणारे लोक आपल्याच देशातील आपल्याच बांधवांना सामाजिक स्वातंत्र्याचे, सामाजिक न्यायाचे हक्क नाकारत होते. इतिहासाचे विकृतीकरण करणा ऱ्याना सत्येतिहासाचे सादरीकरण करूनच उत्तर देणे, हा सुसंस्कृत समाजाचा राजमार्ग मानला जातो. प्रस्तुत संग्रहातील कोल्हापूर गॅझेटिअरवरील लेख या मार्गावरील लेखकाच्या मतानुसार केलेली वाटचालच आहे.
