The lead female character in Ragini is considered as the milestone in Marathi literature. The writer has taken considerable pains to pen down various shades of human nature. Readers are able to experience the sanctity and vastness of Himalayas and river Bhagirathi. Shades of humour, philosophy, poetry and seriousness have been harmoniously woven presenting a captivating story.
The language is simple and lucid, it is matured and meaningful. The philosophical angle of life has surely gained more space throughout but it does not act as a barrier. Rather, it helps to make the reading more significant. Those readers who tend to find meaning from creative writing can also find meaning throughout.
The hero of this novel praises Ragini by saying that the company of Ragini is like that of the holy river Ganga, the many saints and poets. The readers would agree to heroes quote after reading the novel.
‘... ‘रागिणी’ या कादंबरीतले नायिकेचे चित्र इतके सुंदर झाले आहे की मराठी ललित वाङ्मयातील नायिकांत तिला अग्रस्थान द्यावे लागेल.या कादंबरीत कत्र्याने मनुष्यस्वभावाचे बरेच मार्मिक ज्ञान दाखवले आहे.हिच्यात हिमालयाचे आणि भागीरथीचे दर्शन होते, तसे तत्त्वज्ञान व काव्य, गांभीर्य व विनोद यांचेही मनोहर संगम पाहावयास मिळतात.या कादंबरीची भाषा प्रौढ, पण सुगम; साधी, सुंदर असून अर्थव्यक्तिक्षम आहे.कथानकाचा ओघ मधूनमधून तात्त्विक चर्चारूप पाषाणांमुळेत्रुटित झाल्यासारखा वाटला, तरी त्यामुळे त्या ओघास म्हणण्यासारखे विघ्न न होता, उलट त्यास वेगच आला आहे.जे वाचक ललित वाङ्मयाच्या प्रत्येक कृतीपासून बोधाची अपेक्षा धरतात, त्यास उपयुक्त बोध घेण्यासारखीही अनेक स्थळे या कादंबरीत आढळतील. सारांश, या कादंबरीच्या नायकाने लग्नापूर्वी नायिकेसंबंधी उद््गार काढले, तेच प्रत्येक रसिक या कादंबरीचा रसास्वाद घेतल्यानंतर काढील :‘रागिणीची संगती गंगेसारखी, साधुसंगतीसारखी,कविसंगतीसारखी मला पावन वाटते.’’
