Die Arbeitsmarktpolitik benötigt für die Gestaltung der Zukunft wissenschaftlich begründete Vorhersagen und Projektionen über mögliche Entwicklungen auf dem Arbeitsmarkt. Dieses Buch enthält eine ausführliche Dokumentation des im IAB verwendeten makroökonomischen IAB/INFORGE-Modells (Interindustry FORcasting GErmany). Hierbei handelt es sich um ein nach Sektoren gegliedertes gesamtwirtschaftliches Modell für die Bundesrepublik, in dem der Arbeitsmarkt explizit modelliert wird. Das Modell bietet politischen Entscheidungsträgern mittel- und langfristige Arbeitsmarktbilanzen zur Abschätzung des zukünftigen Arbeitskräftebedarfs. Die weltwirtschaftliche Entwicklung und die Beziehung der deutschen Wirtschaft mit der Weltwirtschaft werden zudem über das Modell GINFORS (Global Interindustry Forecasting System) abgebildet. Die Schätzungen beider Modellteile erfolgen simultan und ermöglichen eine Analyse und Prognose des weltweiten Strukturwandels.
