About the author

Welcome to this version of the Pain Toolkit, for people living with persistent pain and would like to also use their faith to support them along the way and learn simple pain management skills.

Hello, my name is Pete Moore, and I understand that living with pain can be challenging. I know this because I have been self managing my persistent pain since ’96 and without pain medication since ’97. Here is a short video about my pain management journey…so far.

Why adapt a Pain Toolkit for people who use their faith to manage their pain?

I remember on the pain management programme being asked within the questionnaires if I prayed about my pain and to be honest, I think I said no. I was still living with a lot of pain and not in that mindset.

The other week, while I was having a weekend cup of tea in bed, I wondered if it could be useful to come up with a prayer entitled ‘A Prayer for Strength and Resilience in Pain Self Management.’ the based around the 5 key pain self management skills.

I posted it on several Pain Toolkit Pain Toolkit social media platforms and Dr Asim Suleman, a GP Pain Specialist who I know from Bradford in the UK contacted me, telling me he was really interested including spirituality and pain management. He had already done this supporting people within the Muslim community, who were living with persistent pain.
