About the author

David A. Erlandson, professor of Educational Administration at Texas A&M University, has written or edited several books and monographs related to the professional development of principals and has contributed numerous journal articles on the same or related topics. He received the Bachelor of Arts degree from Wheaton College, the Master of Science degree from Northern Illinois University, and the Doctor of Education degree from the University of Illinois. Prior to coming to Texas A&M University he served as a public school teacher and administrator in Illinois and as a professor in the school administration program at Queens College of the City University of New York., Peggy L. Stark, principal of Sidney Lanier High in San Antonio, Texas, has also served as an elementary school teacher, an elementary principal, and a central office administrator. She received the Bachelor of Science degree from Olivet Nazarene University, the Master of Education degree from Trinity University, and the Doctor of Education degree from Texas A&M University. She has had extensive experience in various aspects of staff development and has provided in-service training to numerous groups of principals. In addition, she has made many presentations to professional audiences and has served as a consultant to various university research and development projects., Sharon M. Ward, principal of Jasper Middle School, has spent her career as a teacher, a special educator, and an administrator in middle schools and high schools in Texas. She received the Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Houston and the Master of Education degree from Sam Houston State University. In addition to her present position as principal in Jasper, Texas, she has served as associate principal at McCullough High School in Conroe, Texas, and as an assistant high school principal in Bryan, Texas. Her wide experience and training have been frequently used in providing training to secondary school teachers and administrators.
