Enjoyable read overall for a quick primer and some references and further reading into academic linguistics. Though I have read some linguistics books in the past, I will acknowledge that some sections lost me a bit. But overall, the content is good and broad enough in subdiscipline discussion that moving on didn't hurt.
About the author
Peter Matthews is Professor of Linguistics at Cambridge University and a Fellow of St John's College, Cambridge. His many publications in the field of Linguistics include several academic books, particularly in the area of morphology, and The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Linguistics (1997).
