.... या अखंड देशातच कल्याणीचा जन्म झाला होता. भारतानं ब्रिटिशांना हाकललं, पण स्वत:चे तुकडे करून हाकललं .... ह्या देशातून उर्दू बोलणाऱ्या मुसलमानांना हाकलताना हिंदूंना सर्व गाशा गुंडाळून स्वत:च्याच देशातून बाहेर का जावं लागलं? मुसलमानांची मायभूमी न होता, हा देश तर शेवटपर्यंत बंगल्यांचाच राहिला. तीस लाख बंगाल्यांनी स्वत:च्या रक्तातून हा देश उभं केलाय. ज्यांनी भारताचे तुकडे केले आणि या देशाला मुसलमानांची मायभूमी केली, ज्यांच्या दुष्टपणामुळे या देशातील लोकांना आपला देश सोडावा लागला, त्यांना एकाहत्तरच्या पाकिस्तानविरुद्धच्या युद्धात चांगलीच चपराक बसली. हा देश बंगाल्यांचा आहे, मुसलमानांचा नाही; इथं भाषा महत्वाची आहे, धर्म नाही; हेच या युद्धानं सिद्ध केलं. कल्याणीला वाटलं, रिक्षा थांबवून खाली उतरावं, सर्व अंगावर माती माखावी. ह्या मातीचं प्रेम तिला दुसऱ्या कुठल्याच मातीत आपलं म्हणू देत नव्हतं. माणूस एकाच मातीवर प्रेम करू शकतो, तर! कल्याणी आज तिच्या जन्मगावच्या मातीचा वास घ्यायला आली होती. ह्या मातीतूनच तिचा जन्म झाला होता- कोण स्त्रीच्या गर्भातून नाही, तर ह्या मातीतून.....
