Oskar Maria Graf wurde 1894 in Berg am Starnberger See geboren. Von 1911 an lebte er als Schriftsteller in München. Von Wien aus, seiner ersten Exilstation, protestierte er 1933 mit seinem berühmten "Verbrennt mich!"-Aufruf gegen die Bücherverbrennung. Ab 1938 lebte er in New York, wo er am 28. Juni 1967 starb.
